Main Street Looking West, Monongahela PA

This is a postcard which recently sold on Ebay. The seller said it has a 1912 postmark. I would like to take a photograph from the same vantage point but I can’t identify where it is along Main Street. Any ideas? One clue could be the lack of electrical lines. Anybody know when phone poles were erected in Monongahela?

  1. Look closely at the street surface: it looks like trolley track in the pavement. Photo could have been when they were building the trolley through town. Poles would have gone up shortly after the tracks were laid. Often the coming of the trolley brought electricity to an area.

  2. Since it says West Main St. I think it is where Foodland was which would be on the right and I know there are a line of trees all along west Main acrossed the street from Foodland. Or up a little further.

  3. Look at the right side of the picture, all the way to the back. It looks like it could be a steeple, or of course it could be another tree. What steeple would be that close to the road?

  4. I have a feeling that it might be around 6th Street. If you look to the left, I think the concrete steps might belong to the Presbyterian Church. I can’t say what is on the right.
