Found an old postcard of the Devore building at 437 West Main Street. Back then it was known as Gertrude Apartments. The building is instantly recognizable and looks great for being over 100 years old.

Cool. I remember all the little shops in the building next to it that got burned out in a fire I think.

I well recall many visits to Devore Hardware while living in Mon City. My grandfather was a customer. I came home from the military to my grandfather’s funeral and Mr Devore came to the service. That was very thoughtful of him to do so. Does the Devore family still operate the business?
Cheers,

I love the “old time” feel of Devore’s hardware store. The wood floors and shelves stacked to the ceiling with all types of fasteners, thingamabobs and whatchamacallits are wonderful! I’ve never been down in the basement, but I bet’cha it’s filled with all sorts of great things. If you can’t find what you need at Devore’s, it probably doesn’t exist!
